Anyone can run anywhere they want between now and 2:50 p.m. Monday, which is a week to the minute from when the two bombs detonated.
Participants can run or walk a 5K and record their time, then send it in Monday through the group's instructions.
Winners will be selected by a random process, and all proceeds will benefit The One Fund Boston, a group set up by the Massachusetts governor and Boston mayor to help bombing victims.
The race was announced by NYC Runs founder Steve Lastoe.
“We are incredibly moved and disturbed by the events that happened at the finish line in Boston,” he told group members. “Part of the great legacy of running is that we continue to give back.”
Lastoe was at the Boston marathon Monday and told Metro about his experience.
