NYPD announces street closures for United Nations General Assembly

The United Nations representatives are in town, and multiple city streets will be closed to traffic through Saturday, Sept. 26.

 

The NYPD is urging those planning to travel near the United Nations at 1st Avenue and 42nd Street to use mass transit.

 

Daily closures, Monday through Saturday, are: 1st Avenue from 42nd Street to 48th Street (tunnel underpass will stay open, but closed to trucks and large vehicles); 44 to 46th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue. From 5 a.m. through the evening session, 42nd Street from FDR Drive to 2nd Avenue will close, as well as the entrance and exit ramps to FDR Drive.

 

Additional closings by day:


  • Tuesday 9/22: FDR Drive will be intermittently closed southbound at 63rd Street and northbound at South Ferry. Additional closures include 50th Street from Park Avenue to 1st Avenue, 1st Avenue from 42nd Street to 50th Street.

  • Wednesday, 9/24: 50th Street from Park Avenue to 1st Avenue, 1st Avenue from 42nd Street to 50th Street.

  • Thursday, 9/25: FDR Drive will be intermittently closed southbound at 63rd Street and northbound at South Ferry; 50th Street from Park Avenue to First Avenue, 1st Avenue from 42nd to 50th Street.

  • Friday, 9/26: 50th Street from Park Avenue to 1st Avenue, 1st Avenue from 42nd Street to 50th Street.



These streets have a single lane of traffic for emergency vehicles only: 42nd Street from 1st to 5th Avenue, 57th Street from 2nd Avenue to 5th Avenue and 2nd Avenue from 41st to 57th Streets.

49th and 50th Streets will be completely closed to vehicles from Lexington to Park Avenue from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 10 p.m. Thursday. Trucks and other large vehicles cannot take Park and Lexington Avenues between 48th and 52nd streets.

From Monday through Saturday, 50th and 51st Streets from Park to Madison Avenue has managed closings. Trucks and other large vehicle will not be able to access Madison Avenue between 48th and 52nd Streets.
