NYPD: Man shot in Marcus Garvey Park after attacking officer

A White Plains man was shot by a police officer in Marcus Garvey Park on Thursday after a struggle, according to the NYPD.

A White Plains man was shot by a police officer Thursday afternoon in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem after allegedly attacking the officer, according to the NYPD.

Daniel Cabrera, 28, was following two men inside the park at West 120th Street and 5th Avenue, when he saw the officer and “suddenly attacked him,” police said.

Cabrera was pepper-sprayed twice by the officer while trying to take him into custody, then shot in the torso after trying to attack the officer again, police said.

The man was taken to Harlem Hospital and listed in stable condition Friday evening. The officer was treated for injuries to the face and ringing in the ears at Saint Luke’s Hospital.

Cabrera has been arrested on charges of assault on a police officer, menacing a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
