A man tried to rape a young woman after following her into her East Village home earlier this week, police said.
He stalked the 23-year-old woman as she entered her building near Second Avenue around 11:50 p.m. on Monday, police said.
The man then attacked her. Police said he lifted the woman's dress and tried to sexually assault her.
When the woman began to scream, police said the man fled.
The suspect is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old, 6 to 6-foot-2 and weighing 170 pounds, according to the NYPD. He was last seen in khaki pants, a dark zip-up sweater and a baseball hat.
Police are hoping surveillance footage of the suspect will help them catch him.
