The Muslim Advisory Council to the NYPD awarded Police Commissioner Ray Kelly for his work with the city's Muslim community.

The council was formed in 2012 to provide Muslim community leaders direct access to the Police Commissioner. It is regularly briefed on NYPD operations and gives the police input on issues concerning the Muslim community.

The council also presented the Commissioner with a transition document describing the NYPD's outreach efforts to the Muslim community, from the creation of youth cricket and soccer leagues to recruitment of Muslims into the police force, as a “model” for other cities.
