A row of metal chairs behind the popular Ikea in Red Hook is the latest teen hook-up spot, DNAinfo reported Tuesday.
“It’s condom central. The lawn chairs are a bordello,” the director of a local nonprofit told the site.
“I have a 5-year-old who plays hide-and-go-seek over there,” she added. “Around the chaise longues, there’s condoms everywhere. You always have to be careful that they don’t find any squishy balloons.”
A few young locals added that the location has appeal because it is secluded and peaceful, faces the waterfront, and features marine-themed lights. While parents and health experts expressed numerous health concerns to the paper, 21-year old Jonathan Morris explained that “kids got nowhere else to go.”
The Ikea isn’t the first place where New Yorkers have also been caught getting especially touchy-feely. There have been reports of people getting frisky along The High Line park, in the windows of the Standard Hotel and — for one popular Hot 97 DJ — allegedly inside a parked car in TriBeCa.
