Paraplegic shoots, kills 'abusive' brother in West Philadephia

A 34-year-old paraplegic man shot and killed his brother early Sunday morning during a domestic dispute in West Philadelphia, police said.

A 34-year-old paraplegic man shot and killed his brother early Sunday morning during a domestic dispute in West Philadelphia, police said.

John Mapp, 40, was shot in the chest at 3:40 a.m. at his home on the 5800 block of Filbert Street.

According to police, the shooter said Mapp was physically abusive toward him and their 38-year-old sister. He said Mapp was attacking their sister and then approached him when he shot him once in the chest.

Police found Mapp covered in blood and lying in the street. Paramedics rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 6:53 a.m.

Police have not made any arrests as of Sunday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.
