Park Slope then and now: Obama’s stomping grounds

Now, Park Slope is a neighborhood full of parents toting strollers, yoga mats and toddlers, but a few years back, it was simply a future president’s stomping grounds.

A Vanity Fair article in the June 2012 issue reveals that President Barack Obama used to live on Second Street in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, on the top floor of a townhouse.

Obama lived in the apartment in the middle of the 1980s, according to the article.

The current residents of the Brooklyn brownstone, two brothers, told The New York Times they were surprised to hear they were living in hallowed real estate.

Back then, Park Slope would have been a far cry from its reputation today as a sometimes-punch line for its stroller-clogged streets and young families.

But in the 1980s, it had just opened its second bookstore, according to The Times, bolstering its growing reputation as a favorite haunt for writers and intellectuals.
