For the second time in about a week, a Newton worker has been charged with possessing and sharing images of child pornography and city officials said they are going to review their hiring process.

Peter Buchanan, who worked as an audio-visual classifier at the Newton Free Library, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment yesterday. He was held on $5,000 bail.

The 47-year-old Newton resident was arrested at his home Tuesday after an investigation into a file-sharing site led authorities to his computer.

Authorities said they searched Buchanan’s home and found nearly two dozen images on his computer.

Last week, authorities arrested David Ettlinger, 34, a second-grade teacher at a Newton school and accused him of creating and possessing images of child pornography. He allegedly taped a sexual assault of a preteen girl. Ettlinger also had a Sittercity.com account and advertised babysitting services online, according to The Boston Globe.

Newton officials said that both men had background checks done and passed.

Buchanan’s last check was in 2003 and he had no disciplinary record or complaints.

However, Mayor Setti Warren said the city is going to examine the hiring process.

“We’re going to aggressively look at it,” he said.
