Peter Buchanan, Newton librarian faces child porn charges

The arrest of the librarian is the second in a week of a Newton employee who is accused of having child pornography.

A Newton librarian pleaded not guilty this morning to multiple child pornography charges.

Peter Buchanan, 47, of Newton was arrested last night. He was arraigned today on three counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of dissemination of child pornography, according to the Middlesex district attorney's office.

A judge ordered him held on $5,000 bail and ordered him to not hold a job or volunteer at a place where children under 18 are present and to stay away from the Newton libraries if he is released.

Images of children were allegedly found on Buchanan's home computer, authorities said.

Buchanan's arrest is the second of Newton employee on child pornography charges.

Last week, David Ettlinger, a second-grade teacher, pleaded not guilty having hundreds of images of child pornography on his computer as well as allegedly creating pornographic images of a girl who was 12 at the time.
