Mayor Michael Nutter and a delegation of Philadelphia-area dignitaries met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday.
Nutter and the group, which also included Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett and Archbishop Charles Chaput, are in Rome hoping to woo the pope to Philadelphia in 2015 for the World Meeting of Families. They met with the leader of the Roman Catholic church at St. Peter's Square.
The mayor presented Pope Francis with a St. Joe's Prep jersey, according to reports, and the delegation also presented the pope with a small replica of the Liberty Bell and a selection of Philadelphia sports jerseys.
Officials believe millions of people would come to Philadelphia if Pope Francis visits.
