UPDATE 1:40 p.m.
The officer shot today is currently in the operating room at Temple University Hospital, said Richard Ross, Philadelphia deputy commissioner.
Ross said in a press conference today the officer has been with the department for six years, is 41 years old and married.

The shooting resulted from a struggle that started at a vehicle stop, Ross said. A chase ensued to a local convenience store. Three or four officers were involved, he added. The officer was shot in the abdomen.
The suspect in custody is a 31-year-old male.

The officer is listed in critical condition, according to a police spokesperson. One suspect has been taken into custody.
A Philadelphia police officer was shot during a traffic stop in Feltonville today, according to police.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Temple University Hospital after being shot in the stomach.
A suspect is in custody, reports say.
