President Barack Obama reportedly will announce Thursday that Philadelphia has been chosen as one of five "Promise Zones."
The city will joinSan Antonio, Los Angeles, southeastern Kentucky and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma as areas designated for federal tax incentives and grants to aid in tackling poverty, NBC10 reports. The president discussed the Promise Zones during last year's State of the Union.
Mayor Michael Nutter indicated more information about Philadelphia's designation as one of five Promise Zones would come later Wednesday.
The announcement will come in the lead-up to Obama's State of the Union address, which will happen Jan. 28.
