An East Germantown man is being charged with giving false police reports regarding Sunday night’s homicide that left 26-year-old Amber Long dead of a gunshot wound to her chest in a robbery gone wrong, Philadelphia police said today.

Lamar Beatty, 44, of the 1900 block of Church Lane, is charged with false reports to police in reference to providing false information after homicide investigators determined the information he gave was intentionally provided to authorities without merit.

Two “persons of interest” taken into custody Monday have been cleared after their alibis were confirmed.

Two men approached Long and her mother on the 900 block of North Front Street in Northern Libertiesaround 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 and demanded their purses. Long did not give hers up right away, officials said, and she was shot once in the chest.

The offenders left with Long’s mother’s purse and were last seen going north on Front Street in a black Chevrolet Impala. Long was pronounced dead at Hahnemann Hospital at 11:15 p.m.

The attack was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. Police are now asking the public to come forward with any information.
