The nation's first LGBT-friendly low-income senior housing complex, located in Center City Philadelphia, is now certified to accept residents, officials announced this week.

The John C. Anderson Apartments, on 13th between Spruce and Locust in the Gayborhood, are named for a former City Councilman who pioneered civil rights bills for sexual minority individuals in Philadelphia.

Move-in is scheduled for January with a ribbon-cutting the month after. The apartment complex cost about $19.5 million and was funded though a Philadelphia HOME grant, Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funds and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.
