Competitors from across the world descended on Revere Beach during the weekend and created works of art out of sand for the beach’s annual sand sculpting festival.

This year’s winner of the 2014 Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival was Rusty Croft, of California, who brought the title back to the U.S. by besting Jonathan Bouchard (Jobi), of Montreal. Bouchard had won the three previous years.

Organizers estimated that 500,000 people attended the three-day-long event. This year’s theme was “Stars and Stripes: A Tribute to Our Nation’s Armed Forces.”
