Police arrest, find heroin on Staten Island driver who killed pedestrian

A Staten Island woman was killed on Monday afternoon when police said a reckless driver jumped the curb and ran into both victims.

A Staten Island woman was killed and her friend was subsequently injured on Monday afternoon when police said a reckless driver jumped the curb and ran into both victims.

Michael Fox, 23, was taken into custody immediately after the collision at around 1:43 p.m., when officers at the scene found what they suspect to be small amounts of heroin in his car.

Fox drove his 2005 Honda Accord down Hylan Boulevard in the borough's Great Kills section despite having a suspended license, police said, related to a previous charge and arrest for drug possession.

Christal Aliotta and her friend were walking near the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue when Fox drove his car onto the curb and over the sidewalk.

Emergency workers rushed both women to Staten Island University North Hospital, but Aliotta was declared dead on arrival.

The second woman sustained minor injuries and remained in stable condition, officials said.

Fox was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operator for driving with the suspended license, as well as criminal use of drug paraphernalia and possession of both a controlled substance and hypodermic instrument.
