Police car rolls into auto shop after officer departs on foot chase

Police said a cruiser rolled backward into a Goodyear Auto Service Center after an officer got out to chase after a suspect on foot.

A police cruiser smashed through a Northeast Philadelphia auto shop early Sunday morning after an officer got out of the vehicle to chase down a suspect, according to authorities.

Police said the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of Welsh Road.

An 8th District officer exited a police car to launch a foot pursuit of a man suspected of aggravated assault.

The officer's vehicle then rolled backward into the Goodyear Auto Service Center at 2395 Welsh Rd.

No police personnel were injured in the crash.
