Police hunt killer after shooting

Police were searching yesterday for the gunman who killed a 30-year-old Cambridge man and wounded another in a shooting near Central Square this weekend.

James Lauture was sitting in a white Cadillac near Brookline and Watson streets just after midnight Saturday, police said. That’s when a gunman opened fire.

Pictures of the car showed that the shooter fired nearly a dozen bullets into the driver’s side of the car.

Lauture had survived being stabbed three times in the chest in 2001 outside the Alewife T station, according to the Cambridge Chronicle.
The men in the car were able to drive a short distance away to Main Street, where they parked the car and flagged down a fire truck.

Lauture died, but another man in the car survived.

“While no arrests have been made, authorities do not believe the shooting incident to have been random,” the Middlesex district attorney’s office said.
