A 9-year-old boy claims he was able to escape from his abductor after he was snatched and placed in a car trunk near the Lonnie Young Recreation Center in East Germantown on Tuesday evening.
Police were called to the intersection of Chew Avenue and Gorgas Lane just before 8 p.m. when a woman found the boy wandering the streets there, Philadelphia police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little said.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged abduction on the 1100 block of East Chelten Avenue, Little said.
The boy told investigators he was able to escape from his abductor when the man stopped the car and opened the trunk about a half-hour after he was kidnapped. He was unsure exactly where that happened.
Police described the suspect as a white male in his 50s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with black and gray hair. He was driving an older model, white, four-door car.
