Police are investigating a crash where a commuter rail train collided with a car at a railroad crossing in Acton.

Last night around 7:45 p.m. a train smashed into a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander near the corner of Mass Ave and Elm Street. The driver, a 63-year-old Stow woman, escaped the collision, which demolished her car, with non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and no other injuries were reported. There were about 25 passengers on the outbound Fitchburg line train at the time of the incident, according to the MBTA.

The MBTA says a preliminary investigation suggests the crossing gates were working and engaged before the vehicle entered the railroad crossing.

Transit police detectives, according to the MBTA, are currently spearheading the investigation.
