A man was shot early Saturday morning while fleeing two gunmen in the Mount Moriah section of West Philadelphia, according to police.

Investigators said the victim's girlfriend told them she was around 1:45 a.m. walking with her 22-year-old boyfriend on the 6600 block of Upland Street when they were approached by two unknown men.

One of the men allegedly asked the 22-year-old if his name was "O," then pulled out a silver handgun.

Police said the victim tried to run away, but was shot once in the back.

Both assailants then allegedly ran down Upland Street, toward the 6700 block of Greenway Avenue.

Arriving officers found the victim lying on the ground at the corner of 66th and Upland streets and bleeding from the back.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was placed in critical but stable condition.

The two suspects are described only as one black male and one Hispanic male.

No arrests have yet been made, but police said the investigation is ongoing.
