A Milton man was pepper-sprayed by Brookline police after he allegedly acted “aggressively” and swung his bicycle at officers after a chase.

Police said Anwar Luckman, 21, was riding along Harvard Street just after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when he rode past a police officer on patrol, said something and kept riding. The officer noticed Luckman was riding the bicycle without a light at night and tried to get him to stop, according to a police report. Luckman allegedly kept peddling and started traveling on the wrong side of the road.

He eventually fell off of his bike while riding along Harvard Street.

“I approached the subject who then picked up the bike and took an aggressive stance in the middle of the street with the bike between him and myself,” the officer wrote in the report. “I attempted to calm him, but he was enraged, and began swinging the bicycle menacingly in my direction.”

Additional officers arrived at the scene and Luckman allegedly swung the bike at them, too. The officer pepper-sprayed Luckman and, following a brief struggle, he was arrested.

Luckman told police he was riding back home to Milton after visiting a friend on Commonwealth Avenue. “He had no explanation for his disorderly behavior,” police wrote in the report.

Luckman was charged with being a disorderly person and resisting arrest. He also faces $100 worth of biking violations.
