Police nab subway mugger down South

New York City police arrested a man Sunday in North Carolina who they say is responsible for as many as 14 robberies on the subway system this year.

Rasheem Williams, 37, was listed as the “most wanted fugitive” by the NYPD. From January through August of this year, he mugged at least 14 subway riders throughout the city, either on the trains, on the platforms or near the stations, police said.

Williams would tell his victims, mostly women, that he had a gun and demand their cell phones, cash, bank cards and PIN numbers. A few times, such as at East Fourth Street and First Avenue, he brandished a knife. In June, onboard a southbound A train at 207th Street, he punched a woman in the face when she wouldn’t give him her valuables, said police, giving her a black eye.
