Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a 48-year-old Juniata man and his young son early this morning.

The man's wife and boy's mother was last listed in critical condition, shot twice in the back of her head, CBS Philly reports.

Philadelphia police were called to the home at I Street and Erie Avenue, in Juniata, about 1 a.m. on a report of a man with a gun there.

The initial officers on scene reportedly heard gunshots and stormed the home, where they first found the 41-year-old woman critically wounded at the top of the steps. They then found the 48-year-old man and his 10-year-old son dead next to each other -- the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
