Police seek 17-year-old detention center escapee

Delaware State Police are looking for a 17-year-old who allegedly escaped from a detention center Tuesday evening.

Investigators said Ja’Keem Broomer, 17, of Wilmington, shortly before 5:15 p.m. escaped a transport van while it was stopped at the New Castle County Detention Center.

Police said Broomer had just attended a hearing at the New Castle County Courthouse and was being taken to the Stevenson House Detention Center in Milford.

Broomer allegedly got away when the van stopped at the detention center to pick up another juvenile slated to be housed at Milford.

Detectives have issued a warrant for Broomer’s arrest for third-degree escape.

He is described as a 5-foot-6-inch tall black male weighing about 120 pounds.

Broomer was last seen wearing a black windbreaker, a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.
