Boston police have a message for students ahead of Marathon Monday: there will be “zero tolerance” of public drinking and open alcohol containers.
Besides the alcohol-related message, police are also urging students to be respectful of neighbors during next week’s holiday.
The Boston Marathon is held on the Monday observance of Patriot’s Day and is typically observed by many local colleges and universities, giving thousands of students the early spring day off.
Police, in their message, said they want everyone to have a safe and happy holiday. They also urged people about the challenges of getting around as thousands of runners will be heading toward the finish line through the streets of Boston and even more people will be there to cheer them on.
“On Marathon Monday there will be large crowds, restricted access and a large police presence along the marathon route starting in Audubon Circle and continuing through the Back Bay and in the Allston/Brighton area,” police said. “There will be access restrictions on certain streets which may make getting around a bit more challenging.”
Police also warned that congregating on rooftops, fire escapes and porches is prohibited.
“It is our hope that you enjoy the holiday weekend festivities and celebrate in a safe and responsible manner,” police said.
