Burglars apparently started a fire in a Port Richmond Pancake house early this morning.
Police responded to the IHOP at 3400 Aramingo Ave at 12:51 a.m. for reports of an audible alarm. They found a broken glass front door that had been forcibly opened, saw water coming from the rear of the business and smelled heavy smoke coming from inside. They also observed damage to a rear office.
It is unknown at this time if anything was taken, but some investigators have speculated that someone either robbed or attempted to rob the restaurant and went to great lengths to cover their tracks.
The Fire Department was able to shut off the alarm and water, but the business is still closed. The investigation is ongoing.
