Presenting state’s ‘worst of the worst’

They’re called the “worst of the worst” by law enforcement. State Police recently identified 10 men as Level 3 sex offenders and are asking for the public’s help to track them down.

“Finding these men is a priority of the Massachusetts State Police,” State Police Colonel Marian McGovern said in a statement. “Many of them have preyed on children, many are multiple offenders and all are trying to elude the law that requires that they register so we can keep track of them.”

While state police asked for help locating the men, they warned that people not take any action on their own.

The men are all accused of failing to register as sex offenders and are wanted by police departments across the state including Boston, Medford, Newton and Revere. They range in age from 33 to 54 and have been previously convicted of horrific crimes including rape of a child.

One of the men, Michael Kelly, 34, is wanted by Boston Police on new charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. He was convicted of the same crime in 2003.

Photos and descriptions of the men were disseminated recently by the state police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. Last year, the Section arrested 3,000 fugitives. About 300 of them had committed sexual assaults.

Sex offenders are ranked on a level system ranging from 1 to 3. Level 3 offenders, like these men, are considered the highest risk to re-offend.

“These predators are among the worst of the worst,” McGovern said.
