Quincy officials recently approved of a plan to erect a memorial to a fatally abused and tortured dog that gained international attention for her treatment.
The Quincy Parks and Recreation Board approved this month a citizen-led plan to install a memorial bench for “Puppy Doe” near where the dog was found injured, according to the Patriot Ledger. It is expected to be installed by the spring.
The pit bull-type dog nicknamed “Puppy Doe” was found last August in Quincy. The approximately 1-year-old dog was less than half of what her weight should have been. She also had various wounds and her tongue was purposely cut to look like a serpent’s tongue. Animal welfare workers said the case was one of the worst instances of dog abuse they’ve seen.
Radoslaw Czerkawski, 32, a Polish national formerly of Quincy, had pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with animal cruelty. Some animal rights supporters turned out for his court appearance last year chanting “justice for Puppy Doe.”
He has also been charged with stealing from the elderly Quincy woman whom he worked for as a caretaker.
