Quincy police said the drug molly is mostly to blame for eight arrests and 12 overdoses at a club in recent weeks.
Chief Paul Keenan said Wednesday that police conducted an undercover investigation over recent weekends at Ocean Club in Marina Bay. The investigation arose after multiple calls about overdoses at the club around mid-July.
“We were very concerned early on and we suspected something might be going on,” Keenan said.
During the last three weekends in August, Kennan said police arrested eight people for drug possession and distribution with most of those people busted for molly.
While Keenan said he found the number of arrests and drug overdoses troubling, he said he was thankful that none of the dozen overdoses were fatal.
The drug molly, which is a powder form of the drug MDMA, has recently made its way into the mainstream spotlight after a 19-year-old New Hampshire woman died and two other people overdosed at the House of Blues.
The House of Blues defended itself during a hearing before a city licensing board on Wednesday, according to the Globe, and police said the victims did not get the drug while at the venue.
Three other people also overdosed at a concert last week at the Bank of America Pavilion, and a woman died at a New York City music festival from what authorities believe was molly.
