For the first time in the month after Hurricane Sandy, the R train is running through Lower Manhattan.

Service on the line resumed from 34th St – Herald Square to Whitehall Street Monday at 6 a.m.

The line was flooded with sea water following the storm. According to the MTA, workers are still pumping equipment in an effort to restore the Montague Tube for R train service from Lower Manhattan into Downtown Brooklyn.

"The resumption of service to the Whitehall Street station will restore a vital link to Midtown's west side for Staten Islanders and also ease crowding along the Lexington Avenue Line," Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

Officials reminded riders there is only one working escalator in the Whitehall subway station.
