Report: Online job posts drop 25 percent in year

The number of online job postings in Boston has fallen 25 percent in the past year, according to a report released yesterday, which signals a slow recovery from joblessness.

The Conference Board Help-Wanted OnLine Data Series revealed a total of 84,200 online jobs posted in Boston as of Oct. 31, down from 113,500 on the same date in 2008.

There was also nearly a 2 percent drop in ads in Boston since September, a sign that the job market may not have bottomed out yet.

“The September and October numbers are a further indication that, thus far, the recovery is weak,” said Gad Levanon, Senior Economist at The Conference Board.

In Boston there are nearly three unemployed people for every online ad, according to the report.
