A Northeastern University graduate who planned to blow up the Pentagon using remote-controlled plans will plead guilty.
Court documents filed today show that Rezwan Ferdaus, 26, of Ashland, plans to plead guilty to attempting to damage and destroy a federal building by means of an explosive and attempting to provide material support to terrorists. Both Ferdaus and the US Attorney’s office agreed on a 17-year prison sentence, according to the 8-page change of plea agreement.
“Defendant expressly and unequivocally admits that he committed the crimes charged in counts one and five of the indictment, did so knowingly, intentionally and willfully, and is in fact guilty of those offenses,” the plea agreement states.
In exchange, prosecutors will drop four other charges against Ferdaus.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
Ferdaus, who is a U.S. citizen, planned to use a large, remote controlled aircraft filled with plastic explosives.
Ferdaus was arrested in September after FBI agents working undercover delivered what he thought was 25 pounds of C-4 explosives, three grenades and six AK-47 rifles.
Authorities have said he traveled to Washington, D.C. to conduct surveillance and take photographs. They said he also rented a storage facility in Framingham where he planned to construct the parts for his attack.
Authorities have said that the public was never in danger and Ferdaus was closely monitored.
