Cops are looking for a man who stepped out of a Staten Island department store with five stolen backpacks only after assaulting a store employee.

 

 

The unidentified man was caught on videotape walking into a JC Penney in the Staten Island Mall at 140 Marsh Ave at around 2 p.m. Monday.

 

Once inside, he was seen grabbing five backpacks and heading towards the exit without paying for them. One 60-year-old male employee approached the suspect only to be punched by the unidentified assailant.

The staffer was left with cuts and bruising to the face while the suspect fled with the backpacks.

The suspect is described as a black male approximately 20 years old. He is thought to be about 5-feet-8-inches tall with braided hair and slim build.

Videotape last showed him wearing a white T-shirt and camouflage pants.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or to submit tips online.
