A man was killed Thursday afternoon when a 100-foot pile of rock salt collapsed on the front-end loader he was operating at a salt yard in Bucks County.
The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. at International Salt at New Ford Mill and Bordentown roads in Morrisville,NBC10 reported.
Falls Township police told the station the man was moving rock salt in a front-end loader in advance of the snow storm that blanketed the area when the 100-foot pile toppled and buried the machine. Emergency crews used shovels to dig out the equipment, but the man was dead by the time they reached him.
The accident victim's name was not immediately released.
The salt is used to help keep roadways clear of snow and ice.
