Rocky Point are cheer champs

The Rocky Point High School varsity cheerleading squad bought a national title home to Long Island on Tuesday night.

The Rocky Point High School varsity cheerleading squad bought a national title home to Long Island on Tuesday night after high-kicking the competition in the Medium Varsity Division II class at the Universal Cheerleading Association competition this week, held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

I’m not surprised they won,” Amy Agnesini, the Rocky Point High School athletic director told Metro. “They put in many hours of work. They are a great group of girls. They did all the fundraising to get them to Florida. They do a lot of charity work, too.”

The 21-member squad finished ahead of 25 schools who competed in their class nationwide, and 11 other schools in the final round.
