Roe v. Wade turns 40

Today marked the 40th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan gave a “mass for the unborn” at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, after which activists carried a large wooden cross over to an abortion clinic, according to CBS.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and other activists handed out flyers in Park Slope to cull support for a proposed state Reproductive Health Act.

Quinn and her cohort were motivated by a concern that Roe could be overturned and abortion made illegal on a federal level.

“We want to make sure that now matter what happens on the federal level ever, no matter what happens anywhere else, New York has the strongest, clearest protections as it relates to reproductive protections,” Quinn said.
