Russell Crowe is insisting he didn’t get lost while out kayaking Saturday in Long Island Sound.
That’s when the Oscar-winning actor needed a little help from the United States Coast Guard after an afternoon spent kayaking.
Crowe and a friend had set off from Cold Spring Harbor, a town on the north shore of Long Island, earlier that afternoon. But then it got dark, and the pair beached their kayaks in Huntington Bay, almost 10 miles away from their starting point.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki said he was on a routine patrol of the area when, at around 10 p.m., he heard Crowe calling out from the shore. The pair paddled out to the boat and hitched a ride, along with their kayaks, to Huntington Harbor.
Crowe insisted he wasn’t lost, Tweeting early Monday, “not lost,we knew where exactly where we were, paddling around from csh into wind, we ran out of day. Grand adventure eh @Chris_Feather?”
“He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost,” Swieciki said, according to reports. “It wasn’t really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift.”
Both Crowe and his pal were wearing life jackets, and neither was injured or in distress.
Later, at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Crowe sent out another tweet, thanking the Coast Guard officers and saying he was on the water for more than four hours.
“Thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way…4 hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km),” he wrote.
