Sam Adams rolls out first batch of Boston Marathon beer

Sam Adams has prepared a specialty beer specifically for the Boston marathon this year, and the brewery will be rolling out the first barrel of the new batch on Thursday during a private event.

According to the brew-masters, the “26.2 Brew,” inspired by the city’s annual 26.2-mile marathon, will have a “slightly lower alcohol level and lighter body” than many of the beers in their arsenal of flavorful suds.

The company says the specialty batch will be appealing both to runners and spectators, although I’m sure you don’t want to chug it while participating in the marathon.

According to a press release, Jim Koch, founder of Sam Adams, will join members of the Boston

Athletic Association to taste the first sample of the special beer Thursday night.

Last month, The Boston Beer Company announced its first-ever partnership with the B.A.A. and the creation of a special beer brewed exclusively to mark the 2012 Boston Marathon.
