Search for jewel thief

Police on Thursday continued to search for the gunman who shot and killed a Madison Avenue jewelry store clerk and ran off with close to $1 million in gems.

Henry Menahem, 71, was shot in the R.S. Durant jewelry store between 75th and 76th streets after the gunman taunted him. “You think I’m kidding? This is real!” he said when Menahem reportedly failed to fill a canvas bag with jewelry.

Police found a “Faberge-style” egg from the store in a trash bag on Lexington Avenue and East 73rd Street.

Police described the suspect as a light skinned male black, approximately 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, wearing a blue wool coat, grey slacks, black dress shoes, scarf, sunglasses and black gloves.
