Boston police have made their second arrest in an attempt to shut down illegal motor scooter and bike activity in the city.
Police arrested Anthony Brown, 19, of Dorchester, and charged him with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
According to police reports, on Wednesday officers from Mobile Operations were conducting “Operation Kickstand” near Humboldt Avenue and Crawford Street when they observed Brown allegedly riding a motor scooter without a helmet on.
Officers stopped Brown and asked for his license and registration, but Brown had not registered the vehicle.
According to police, Brown said he had purchased the scooter one day earlier for $200.
Officers then checked the Vehicle Identification Number and found the scooter was reported stolen the day before to the Brookline Police Department.
Brown’s arrest was the second in Mayor Thomas Menino’s crusade to crush illegal motorized bike operations this summer.
Police arrested a 17-year-old Dorchester man on June 30 for riding an unregistered scooter without a license.
“Operation Kickstand” stemmed from the mayor’s outrage over a 4-year-old boy being shot in the back while at a Dorchester park last month.
The mayor and Police Commissioner Ed Davis said the motorized vehicles are linked to some gang violence in the city, and were present the night of the shooting.
