Expanding the parking lot at the Secane Regional Rail station is a priority for SEPTA.

SEPTA will announce on Friday its first project using money from the recently approved transportation funding bill.

Alongside Gov. Tom Corbett, SEPTA officials will unveil plans to expand the parking lot at Secane Regional Rail station, which services the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line.

According to a news release, the work will focus on critical infrastructure needs and the replacement of aging equipment.

SEPTA said its Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line, which serves Secane Station, "has some of SEPTA’s most pressing needs and will see a number of major improvement projects starting this year," according to a news release.

The transportation bill, which will raise billions to help remedy lingering issues with the state’s aging infrastructure, was approved by the state Legislature and signed by Corbett in November.

The bill will fund repairs to Pennsylvania’s highways, bridges and mass transit systems, and will be paid for by tax increases to motorists.
