Shasten Snellgroves: NYU students claims she is forced to live with 4-year-old

Roommate horror stories in college dorms are nothing new. We’ve all heard of roommates that sleep all day, don’t clean, have too many guests cramped into a tiny room, not to mention the parade of strange men going in and out of her bed regularly.

Shasten Snellgroves, a junior at NYU, has a roommate story that trumps all.

Snellgroves claims that NYU is forcing her to live in the dorm with her roommate and her roommate’s 4-year-old child.

NYU’s sign-in policy allows visitors to spend six nights per month in the room but allows unlimited amount of days.

Snellgrove says she understands “the new resident’s predicament and I am sympathetic to her struggle to juggle so many aspects of life, but I don’t feel that it is just for me to be facing consequences related to her life decisions.”

In her letter to NYU Local, Snellgrove brings up good points regarding responsibility. What happens if the kid slips in the bathtub? What happens if the “child manages to open the medicine cabinet and overdoses on my medication or ingests cleaning substances?”

According to her letter to NYU Local, when Snellgrove complained about the situation a NYU housing department employee “compared the situation to one roommate being uncomfortable with another having a homosexual partner stay the night.”

While we’re sure the NYU housing department gets many complaints from students regarding their roommates on a daily basis, something tells us this is a unique situation. Can’t it all be solved by getting one of these girls a single?
