police tape

One person was killed and two others injured Saturday evening in a single-car crash on Route 495 northbound in Mansfield, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The car went off the road near Exit 13 around 6:30 p.m. before crossing the breakdown lane and slamming into trees, police said.

One person was taken to Sturdy Hospital in Rhode Island where they later died; it was unclear whether that victim was the driver or a passenger. Another person was taken by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston with life-threatening injuries, and a third person was treated for less serious injuries, according to police.

It was not immediately clear why the car went off the road; police are investigating.
