An MBTA employee who was caught sleeping on the job over the weekend has been disciplined, according to an MBTA spokesman.
“We will not be releasing his name nor the level of discipline,” said MBTA Spokesman Joe Pesaturo, adding that “he was disciplined for for violating the MBTA’s ‘Attention to Duty’ rule.”
An anonymous T rider tweeted a photo to transit police that shows a male employee with his head down on his desk, apparently catching a few Z’s at Park Street station around 11 a.m. Saturday.
The image was posted at midnight Sunday as a response to a tweet by transit police asking riders to notify them if they see anyone on the T who needs shelter.
Pesaturo said Monday that the worker would be interviewed by a supervisor this week, and that the supervisor would decide what, if any, disciplinary measures were warranted.
In May, a long-time transit officer admitted to sleeping at his desk after a rider snapped a photo at a Mattapan stop and tweeted it to the public. That employee also faced “disciplinary action.”
MBTA Police Superintendent-in-Chief Joseph O’Connor confirmed that the employee involved in this incident is not a transit officer, and that the tweet was forwarded by police to MBTA operations.
