A Somerville man pleaded guilty to charges that he lied about his age in his effort to lure teens online.

Justin Koser, 31, pleaded guilty to charges of enticement of a child under 16 and attempted rape of a child, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said on Monday. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years jail.

Koser told a 15-year-old girl that he was a 17-year-old high school senior from Andover, sent her explicit messages and arranged to meet her, prosecutors said.

“The defendant lied about his age and identity online and knowingly approached a 15-year-old girl seeking to engage in sexual conduct,” said District Attorney Marian Ryan in a statement. “Thankfully this victim told her parents and police were able to step in to protect the victim. The unfortunate reality is that anyone can hide their identity online and predators are very good at deceiving their victims.”

Koser was arrested at the scene where he arranged to meet the teen girl.
