A string of mysterious fires at Boston College has the school community on high alert.
Boston College Police and the Newton Fire Department responded to three fires that were "suspicious in nature" set in Gasson and Stokes halls on Saturday night. No one was injured in the blazes, but the north wing of the fourth floor of Stokes Hall sustained smoke and water damage caused by the fire and the activated sprinkler system, the university said in a release.
Boston College Police Chief and Director of Public Safety John King is asking the community to notify authorities if they see anything suspicious. The fire department will be present in the buildings until new smoke alarm systems are installed. The buildings remain safe to occupy during the refurbishment period.
“We are working hard to return operations to normal as soon as possible, but we ask for the community’s patience and assistance as we deal with this cleanup process,” said Vice President for Facilities Daniel Bourque.
