Philadelphia police on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old student for allegedly bringing a gun into Samuel S. Fels High School in Crescentville.
Investigators said school police shortly before 7:30 a.m. discovered a handgun in the student's backpack as he went through the scanner at the front of the school.
When security officers attempted to stop the teen, a struggle ensued, touching off a foot pursuit, according to authorities.
Guards caught up with the student about four blocks away, on the 800 block of East Sanger Street.
Police said he was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered.
