Student move-in causes street closures

Boston University Bridge construction, mixed with a Red Sox-Yankees series and BU student move-in week, will lead to serious gridlock around the city through Labor Day.

According to Boston University’s website, the school’s public safety department expects this week’s move-in of more than 11,460 students to be busier than previous years.

All week, students will be matched with dormitory beds, with a small overflow of students finding 60 beds off-campus, according to BU Today.

Street closures will take place all around the campus area from today through Sunday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

BU Today said the busiest days of the week will be Wednesday — the first regular move-in day for all students — and Saturday, the main move-in day for freshmen. The heaviest rush on both days will typically be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Public safety officials at the school said drivers should expect to see serious traffic.
